This event consisted of a two-day work-meeting with experts from the LAC region, specifically from the countries of Argentina, Brazil, Dominican Republic and Honduras to review and add on the work done on the development of a course for Community Engagement in Clinical Trials. This event was coordinated and facilitated by Mesh, represented by the Senior Program Manager and the Regional Coordinator for the LAC region, in collaboration with the TGHN LAC consortium.
Over two days the experts and Mesh coordinators met face-to-face to review the work done so far in the Africa and Asia meetings to achieve the following:
The course was reviewed and edited systematically on a module basis, with each participant making recommendations and discussing each one with the group. A Spanish version of the draft was provided so the experts could give feedback on the quality of the translation and the adaptation of the core concepts of the course to the LAC context, both in Spanish and Portuguese. On the second day, after finishing making recommendations to the draft, each participant presented a case study from their country highlighting community engagement practices in health research, focused on the context of clinical trials. The mesh coordinators also talked about the need to have a group of experts from LAC advise on the work of the Mesh network in the region, helping expanding the network membership and having a say in the focus that this community of practice should have in Latin America and the Caribbean.
