This MOOC has been produced by Université de Genève, Institut Pasteur, Université Paris Descartes and Centre Virchow-Villermé. It is hosted on Coursera and presented in English, with French, Portuguese or Spanish subtitles available.

With the help of the intervention of faculty members and international experts, the course will explore the recent Zika phenomenon, a previously rare benign virus that turned unexpectedly into the limelight when on the 1st of February 2016 it was declared by the WHO as a Public Health Emergency of International Concern. This MOOC involves interactive dialogue between participants and facilitators through a community of practice, which promotes questions, critical thinking, participatory learning, as well as interrelated and ongoing collaborative information.

Some course materials can be accessed for free, but otherwise it is a paid-for course. Financial aid is available for participants who are unable to pay.
