This case study has been written by Epidalert (a civil society initiative to provide high quality scientific information to a public audience through online media). It describes a targeted initiative to target rumours that emerged during the 2014 West Africa Ebola outbreak. An app was developed where community members could report concerns and rumours they’d heard. This enabled health workers and researchers to be sensitive to community concerns in their response efforts. The app generated a two way form of communication within the highly stressed outbreak situation.
